Posted missing, 9 May 1918; finding of Court of Enquiry, 'Missing believed Prisoner', 19 May 1918; finding of Court of Enquiry, killed in action 9 August 1918. According to an eye witness at the the Court of Enquiry, Arthur was hit in the temple by a bullet and died within 'a minute or two'. His paybook was taken by a stretcher bearer who was captured before being able to hand it in, and this resulted in the confusion about Arthur being captured.'
