      For gallantry near St Julien on 13th October 1917. This N.C.O. was employed in moving his gun forward to an advanced position over a very bad road, and under very heavy enemy shellfire. Throughout the move he showed great courage in controlling his men. To his perseverance under most trying conditions was due the successfully placing of his gun in its new position ready for action.
