    Four sons, brothers Francis George Whitmore (12/2155); Henry Arnold Whitmore (13/2261); John Ellis Whitmore (6/3507); and Douglas Fred Whitmore (65488) served in WW1. Two brothers were killed in action.

    Joined Auckland Infantry Regiment, Gallipoli, 8 June 1915.
    Disembarked Alexandria, 29 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation).
    Embarked Port Said to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 6 April 1916.
    Killed in action, 28 September 1916.
