  • 15 November 1916 posted to France, joined his Battalion in the field on 7 December, on the River Lys.

29 November 1917 Williams promoted to Corporal

"At the beginning of April Williams marched into camp at Abeele for one week, prior to returning to the Front in the Upper Ancre valley. He remained in the Field until 26 July, when he was wounded in action, receiving gunshot wounds to his right arm, legs and buttocks." (Church, p.153)

Williams was evacuated to No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst. The operation on his wounds was successful but shortly afterwards he developed lobar pneumonia and died in August 1918. (Church, p.153)

Cyril Ernest Williams, Percy's brother, Lance-Corporal, 20269, was killed in France the same week that Percy Williams died in Brockenhurst. The brothers ensured they were in the same unit. This practice was discouraged in WWII because too many families lost all their sons in WWI. (Church, p.154) AWMM
