  • Julian Brough was my sisters partners uncle. He was a timber mill hand at Kakahi - a small settlement 20kms south of Taumarunui. My family and I passed through there in the late 1980s when we were on a cycling trip to Nelson. Julians life was cut short at Passchendaele in 1917. I believe 400 New Zealanders lost their lives on October 4th and many have no known grave. Our children should be taught about the slaughter of our countrys finest. We have not recovered from their loss.
Rest in peace Julian -you are remembered.
