    A bricklayer at the Wellington Meat Company in Masterton in 1916

    He joined Wellington Regiment, 4th Battalion, 3rd N.Z. Rifle Brigade

    One of two sons killed in WW1: William George Youngson (39927); Robert Youngson (9/988) and a third, Alexander (Alex) a reserve who died of Spanish influenza in 1918.

    Their mother, Marion Craig (Youngson) was given the honour of unveiling the Balclutha memorial

    Listed on CWGC as Sergeant but his rank was a Corporal (Temporary Sergeant) AWMM
