    Formerly buried at Terendak Camp, Malacca, Malaysia. Returned to New Zealand as part of the Te Auraki Repatriation Project in 2018.

    The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) began repatriating the remains of personnel buried in Malaysia during 2018.

    This is part of project Te Auraki (The Return), under which the NZDF is bringing home personnel and dependants buried overseas after 1 January, 1955, following a change in Government policy.

    Private Williams' mother, Mrs June Williams of North Shore, Auckland, received the New Zealand Operational Service Medal on his behalf from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence at a presentation at the Auckland War Memorial Museum on Thursday 27 November 2003

    Killed in action - Gunshot wound to head and neck.

    Killed in action, 17 June 1969 – gunshot wounds to head and neck in contact. John (Jack) Williams grew up in Waipukurau and joined the Regular Force cadets in 1965. After postings to NSTU Burnham and 1 Battalion Depot, he joined 1RNZIR at Terendak, Malaysia in November 1968. A training accident prevented him from accompanying the main body of V4 Company to Vietnam in May 1969. He rejoined the Company on 17 June 1969 during Operation Laverack.
