  • Buried at Papatoetoe. Memorial Flag was presented to family at Papakura 28/11/1989.

    Killed in action - shrapnel wound sustained in contact with Vietcong

    Private Wickman was in V Company of the Anzac Battalion when it was attacked by 30 Vietcong shortly after the New Zealanders had killed three Vietcong Guerillas in a jungle clash a few miles from the Nui Dat Task Force Base. Private Wickman was killed and four soldiers - Lt. Maurice F. Dodson, Pte Llewellyn J.H. Williams, Pte Campbell Keelan and Cpl. Arohanui L. Ropeta - were wounded in the action. The wounded were admitted to the Australian Task Force Hospital at Vung Tai where their condition was satisfactory. (NZ Herald 24 June 1968, s1,p1.)
