    Private Gurnick's brother, Mr Earl Gurnick of Papatoetoe, received the New Zealand Operational Service Medal on his behalf from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence at a presentation at the Auckland War Memorial Museum on Thursday 27 November 2003.

    Killed in action, 29 May 1970 – grenade booby trap. Buried in Pukekohe Cemetery, Soldiers Section, plot 142. AWMM

  • i was 3 and half years old when you were born and just 18 when you were bought back to us .... i remember standing with my mum and dad and aunty mary and uncle jim at the parlour in Mt eden touching you and holding your hand it was so so sad to see you lying there so handsome and young... i love you John RIP
