      Killed in action, 26 January 1968 – mine. AWMM
    • Corporal George Kingi Hoerara, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, who was killed in action in Vietnam on 26 January 1968.

      Originally from Horoera, north of Te Araroa on the East Coast, George Kingi had been living in Taihape when he enlisted into the New Zealand Army.

      He initially served in the Korean War as a Signaller, before transferring to the New Zealand Regiment and serving in Malaya as a Private and Borneo as a Lance Corporal.

      Promoted to Corporal, George Kingi deployed to Vietnam as part of the 5th embarkation, with Whiskey Company of the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, attached to the 1st Australian Task Force.

  • Uncle George Kingi Hoerara was my mother`s younger sibling. He was born and bred at a small settlement, 3 kilometers north of Te Araroa called Horoera and his exact birth place was at a small inlet called Maruhou. Every year on ANZAC day I celebrate your life, May you RIP uncle, always remembered and loved by your whanau.
