    Attended Auckland Grammar School.

    Admitted to Wairarapa hospital on 19 June 1916 due to Influenza, from Trentham camp, being discharged on 26 June 1916
    Embarked at Wellington aboard SS Devon on 25 September 1916, disembarking at Devonport on 21 November 1916
    Was vaccinated on 12 October 1916
    Marched into Sling Camp on same day, leaving for France on 20 December 1916
    Marched into camp at Etaples on 22 December 1916
    Joined unit 2nd Battalion in the field on 24 January 1917
    Fought at Messines and Passchendaele
