  • William Aherne was the son of Michael Robert Aherne and Elizabeth Aherne (nee Young). He was the husband of Dorothy Marjorie Aherne of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

    On 12 July 1942 the MV Hauraki was ambushed by the armed merchant cruisers Hokoku Maru and Aikpku Maru and captured. She was taken to Singapore and the crew sent to Ofuna Camp and through other camps to the Mitsubishi Shipyard in Japan. AWMM
