Alexander of Waihou Valley, New Zealand.He was born in Waihou Valley and educated at the Okaihau District High School. After completing his education he went onto his parents' farm, and later joined the Air Training Corps. Enlisting in the Air Force when he was 18 years of age, Sgt Pilot Alexander was trained in New Zealand as a pilot and the flight in which he met his death was to have been the last before his posting for duty overseas.As the best marksman for aircraft shooting on the station to which he was attached, Sgt Pilot Alexander won a bronze trophy. He had been recommended for a commission.
