  • John Anderson was the son of George Anderson and Grace Wood Anderson (nee Graham)

From New Zealand Herald 27 October 1945 "AUCKLANDER'S DEATH ... SERVICE IN BOMBER COMMAND 'The death is officially presumed of Flying Officer John Graham Anderson, only son of Mrs G. W. Anderson, of 14 Tarawera Terrace, St. Heliers Bay. Flying Officer Anderson left New Zealand in January, 1943, to complete his training in Canada, and after being commissioned he was posted to the R. A. F. Bomber Command. He was reported missing last November after an operation in which he was captain of a Lancaster over Germany.

Educated at Mount Albert Grammar School, Flying Officer Anderson played senior Rugby football for Grammar Old Boys, and was later captain of the Manukau Rovers senior team. While stationed in Canada, he represented Victoria, B.C. He was also a keen yachtsman, being in the crew of the keeler Wairiki. Before the war he was a member of the Piha Surf Life-saving Club.'"
