  • Donald Brown was the son of John and Alice Brown, of 4 Lower Vincent Street, Auckland.

Attested as seaman and last employer was New Zealand Steam Ship Company.

Private Donald Brown lied about his age when he enlisted. he provided the date but did not put the year, this date appears to have been added later as the ink does not have the same density. Indeed acccording to members of his family 'his father had died and circumstances were that it (the war) was probably going to be an adventure for him - which makes his death all the more tragic.'

He was first buried in the field. AWMM

  • Donald held a special place in my Grandmothers ( his sisters) heart. Two of his brothers also served . Both returning home suffering the effects of gas and trauma. In my thoughts.
