      Three sons, brothers served in the South African War Irving Stanley Irving (3498), Ernest Charles Hurrey (3499) and John Alexander Hurrey (736).

    • 29 May 1901 - Mr J. R. Hurrey has received advice from the Defence Department that his son, Trooper Irving Stanley Hurrey, has died of wounds at Bethel, South Africa. This is the second death from among those who went from this district, Trooper J Kirkman, from Waiomatatini, having died of fever.   • John Hurrey was my Maternal Great Grandfather, and his son Irving would have been my great Uncle. I have not seen any photos posted of him, but I do have one of him in his Trooper Uniform, plus one of his grave, with the tombstone erected by his comrades. Regards Franz
