  • William falsified all his details when he enlisted as Peter Edward William Lehrs with next of kin Timothy Lehrs, Waihi Mines, Auckland, New Zealand listed as his father.

After his accidental death in 1904 his sister Clara Foss wrote to Colonel Porter pointing out the alias and claiming the medal, clasps and monies held by the Public Trust for their mother Mary Foss. She explained that their father, Thomas Foss, was absent from home, and that her mother would be next-of-kin. The file notes the Public Trustee is communicating with the father, Thomas Foss.

Peter Edward William Lehrs, in whose place Foss served in South Africa, was the son of Peter Edward Lehrs and Jane Moore (also named Gilmore, Gilmour) was born 29 June 1882 and died 4 April 1951

Alias and complete false identity as Peter Edward William Lehrs used at enlistment AWMM
