  • Colin Atkins was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Edward Atkins of New Lynn, Auckland

While walking along Russley Road at 2345 hours, Atkins was seriously injured on being struck by a motorcycle ridden by two off-duty airmen. Atkins died at Christchurch Public Hospital the following day

Atkins died just two days before his 18th birthday and was possibly the youngest member of the RNZAF to die during war. He was serving with the E & W Squadron pending training as a radio mechanic.

The CWGC incorrectly records his age as 19, he was 18 years old.
