  • James was an adopted son of the Reverend Robert Young. It is not possible to verify who his natural parents were as adoption records were not kept before the mid 1880s but for various reasons descendants believe him to be the James Charles Longhurst who was born at Halcombe in 1879 the son of Thomas Longhurst and Annie Costello.

Medals CC, TRA, RH, SA 01.

Listed on the Maitland Boer War Memorial, Maitland, South Africa, as 'J.S. Young'.

    Died Worcester Cape Colony
