  • Trooper Freeman was reported dead in 1900 of enteric fever and his family was informed, the town of Waimate flew flags at half-mast and a memorial service was held. He was however very much alive, and had been sent home as a convalescent on the Gothic.

    His mother, writing to Defense said this bout with enteric directly however contributed to his early death some short time later in January 1902.

    Served as Tom. Service with the Permanent Artillery not verified on his service record. Medals CC, OFS AWMM
