  • My Great Uncle Edward Hewitt Barnard Brown was Killed a few days after arriving at Gallipoli. He is buried there. He did not leave a family. His brother Frederick also served in Egypt also with the Auckland Mounted Rifles. Both brothers tried to enlist together but were refused as they were dairy farmers. Hewitt enlisted while his brother returned to farm. After Hewitt's death his brother Frederick enlisted .Frederick survived the war, married and had 5 sons. The eldest, my father, was named after him Edward Hewett Barnard-Brown.
The family moved to Australia with a war serve land grant in Western Australia which was not a successful venture. Edward Hewitt Barnard-Brown is remembered by a large and grateful family. We remember him especially every ANZAC DAY and REMEMBRANCE DAY. Lest we forget.
