  • Brother of Traytor Bradford

    He served with the Grenadier Guards before emigrating to New Zealand and then served with the volunteer unit, the Ohinemuri Rifles.

    Trooper Bradford was the first New Zealander reported killed in the war and the first New Zealander to be killed overseas .

    He died from wounds received 10 days earlier near Arundel and died in a Boer field Hospital at Rensberg Siding on 28 December 1899

    He was first buried at Resnburg, Cape Colony then transferred to Colesburg AWMM

  • George Rowland Bradford was also the first Regimental Sergeant Major of the HAURAKI Regiment prior to embarkation to South Africa. I was Commanding Officer of the Battalion Group from 2002 to 2006.
