    FLIGHTS OVER EUROPE - COAST BOMB-AIMER
    Flight Lieutenant Andrew Albert Haydon, who has been awarded the D.F.C.. took part, in a number of operational flights over Germany and enemy-occupied Europe. He volunteered for the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1941 and trained early in .thatyear in New Zealand as a pilot. Part vfay through his “wings” examination !’j| was taken ill, and on resuming his course was graded unfit for pilot; duties.
    Later he was transferred to a new course, which took him to Canada, and he there successfully completed training as a bomb-aimer, being one of the first three New Zealanders to qualify for the badge bearing the winged “B.”

    Thirty-two years of ago, Flight Lieutenant Haydon was born at Tokomaru Bay and received part of his education at the Marist Brothers’ School in Auckland, later taking up shepherding on the Coast. For some years lie was head shepherd at Mr. A. B. Williams’ station at Tokomaru Bay. v J Prior to entering the air force ha was living with his sister. Mrs. E. Pi Longdill, Tiniroto. His father is Mr A. E. Haydon, Opotiki, and his brother, Sergeant Dan Haydon, who returned with the first furlough .draft from the Middle East, is at present employed in Gisborne.
