  • Richmond Bamford was the son of Harry Dean Bamford, and of Jean Aitken Bamford (nee Richmond), of Green Lane, Auckland, New Zealand.

Note that Flight Lieutenant Bamford is recorded as Richard D. Bamford in the cenotaph book but as Richmond Bamford in his death notice.

Dick Bamford was Head Boy at King's College which he attended from 1931-35 (St John's House). He captained the rugby team. Intending to take up farming he graduated B.Agrs from Massey College before training as a pilot with the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

He was killed when his badly damaged Wellington aircraft crashed after a night attack on a German U boat on the surface off the Spanish coast. AWMM
