  • Pilot Officer Barker was the son of Richard and Sheila Hall Barker, of Gisborne, Auckland, New Zealand.

    His brother, 70043 Flight Lieutenant Desmond Wallace Ferguson Barker, Royal Air Force, was killed in a similar accident on 12 February 1941.

    Advice was received to-day of the death in air operations of Pilot Officer Richard Barker, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Barker, Russell street. Pilot Officer Barker left New Zealand six months ago as a member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and had been engaged in air operations for only a few weeks.
