  • He was the third son of Rev & Mrs E.P. Blamires, of Norfolk, England, who formerly lived in Devonport.

    He was educated at Takapuna Grammar School and represented his school at cricket.

    He left for America towards the end of 1939 and in December 1940 joined the Royal Canadian Air Force.

    He gained a special distinction pass graduating second out of a class of 64 and was granted a commission in August 1941.

    After acting as an advanced instructor in Canada for six months Pilot Officer Blamires ferried a bomber across the Atlantic and was posted to a Royal Canadian Air Force Squadron of night fighters.

    Flying Officer Blamires was initially buried at Evreux and later reinterred in the Canadian War Cemetery near Bretteville-sur-Laize.

    Remembered on the Takapuna War Memorial, The Strand, Takapuna.

    Next of kin details compiled from information in the Casualty lists published in the newspapers. Ron's fiancee provided information to compile the Cenotaph database record.
