    • KILLED IN ACTION
LONG SERVICE RECORD SON OF GISBORNITE HIGHLAND CORPORAL Advice has been received by Mrs. A. Bloomfield, Russell street, of the death of her eldest son, Corporal Tom Bloomfield, while serving with the Highland Light Infantry, a well-known Scottish regiment. Corporal Bloomfield is reported to have been killed in action against the enemy. He joined the King’s Own Scottish Borderers during the last war as an under-age soldier, and was assigned to bugling duties. He saw continuoir service with that regiment for 10 years, his overseas service including periods in India, Egypt and Palestine. Subsequently he transferred to the Highland Light Infantry, with which he was serving at the outbreak of the present war.

His brother, Corporal Graham Bloomfield, is a member of the Second Echelon of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, having enlisted in Gisborne. He is with a signals unit.

Mrs. Bloomfield, who is at present a patient in the Cook Hospital, will receive much sympathy in her bereavement Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 22 June 2023 - GISBORNE HERALD, VOLUME LXVIII, ISSUE 20492, 28 FEBRUARY 1941, PAGE 4
