  • Sergeant Brown was the son of Charles and Isabel Emily Brown.

    As a child he lived in the Papatoetoe Orphan Home. He attended Papatoetoe Primary and Otahuhu Technical High School. On leaving school, he farmed on the Hauraki Plains and worked for Te Awamutu Dairy Company.
