  • John (Jack) Casey was the son of John Edwin and Catherine Casey of Titirangi, Auckland.

Mr and Mrs Casey, parents of John, planted two trees at the end of Opou Road, Titirangi, Auckland for their two sons who where both serving overseas in World War 2. In 1954 one of the trees was cut down to make way for a car park beside the community hall - it was intended to cut down the second tree, but when the significance of the tree became known this fate was averted. A plaque commemorating John Casey who had died on active service was placed at the site (see attached photographs). (Western Leader, 24 April 2012, p4) AWMM
