Squadron Leader Leonard Trent, who was leading the bombers, reached the target but his bombs landed short, inflicting no damage on the power station and killing three Dutch civilians. He was shot down and captured immediately afterward. Of the 48 bomber crew who set out on the raid, 28 died and 12 were taken prisoner.
