  • The Cumpsty whānau lived in Rangitukia for roughly 12 years, where Mr and Mrs Cumpsty were teachers. Buster became firm friends with the Rickard family and used to spend most of his time with them, eventually living with them. He had a twin sister called Joan. When he was killed, during the war, a son was born to Victor Rickard was named after him.

  • I am researching a distant relative who was in the same aircrew as "Buster". This is the "Thomas Crew" whose aircraft Stirling BF 458 was brought down to the north of Krefeld, near Bochum and Uerdingen. My relative was Hector "Paddy" Stewart, Navigator of the "Thomas Crew" he survived and was a PoW at Stalag Luft 3 and emigrated to Canada post war. Pilot was Alf Thomas, KIA, Panel 133 Runnymede Memorial. Rear Gunner, Canadian Ernest Henry, KIA. Panel 180 Runnymede Memorial. Son of Ernest Frank and Anne Henry; husband of Helen Margaret Henry, of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Mid Upper Gunner, John O’Farrell, aged 19. Buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany. Flight Engineer, John Gale. Buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany. Wireless Operator. Sgt. R. H. Boxell , Prisoner of War.
