  • Warrant Officer Barnes was the son of Henry Barnes and of Hilda Barnes (nee Barnes), of Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.

    Husband of Alma Barnes, of Whangarei

    Warrant Officer Barnes died of pneumonia. He was the first member of 21st Battalion to become a casualty of war (Cody, 1953 p.24). AWMM
