  • Disembarked at Suez on 15 May 1941 and went by train to Cairo.

    Private Saies was part of a mobile dental unit which served in North Africa and Italy.

    Embarked on Mauretania (with New Amsterdam and escorts - Australia, Hobard and Achilles). The first port of call was Sydney.The escort from there consisted of Queen Elizabeth, Ile de France, Queen Mary.

    Desmond married in 1948 and had three children. AWMM
