  • Ian MacKenzie attended King's College in 1912 and 1913 and is on their Roll of Honour.

    He drowned when HMTS Aparima - a 5704 tons British Merchant vessel - was hit on 19 November 1917 by a torpedo from a submarine 6 miles S.W. from Anvil Point. (Anvil Point is on the south coast of England between Bournemouth and Weymouth.) The Aparima was armed for defensive purposes and the crew had no warning that they were being attacked. 56 lives were lost.

    Listed as Mackenzie on the Auckland War Memorial Museum Hall of memories. Listed by CWGC as McKenzie AWMM
