'At MEDININE, Tunisia, on the morning of 6 March 1943 Sergeant Buxton commanded a carrier in a patrol. At first light the patrol observed four enemy lorries packed with infantry and the leading lorry was immediately engaged by the officer commanding the patrol. Two of the other enemy vehicles then attempted to move on his rear but were promptly engaged by Sergeant Buxton and shot up. In the meanwhile his Captain’s carrier had been disabled by enemy fire and seeing this Sergeant Buxton directed his own and another carrier’s fire on to the enemy, pinning them down and enabling the third carrier to move up and rescue the officer and his crew. He then covered the patrol’s withdrawal and brought the party back to its own lines, skilfully avoiding several parties of the enemy on the eight mile journey. Sergeant Buxton showed quick judgment and aggressive action in addition to great personal bravery.'. (Source: The National Archives. Recommendation for Award for Buxton, Norman. (Ref. WO 373/24/384).
