  • Fred was my cousin, his father, also Fred, was killed in the 1st WW and my father Jack Hindrup, often talked about both of them and how their deaths affected their family. Cousin Fred also had a step brother Leonard Hindrup who was killed in the 2nd WW on 10th April 1945. We only found out about Leonard when one of my brothers was reading a book about The 28 Maori Battalion and came across his name. My son visited his grave in Faenza , Italy, in 2007 and brought home an etching of his headstone and photographs.
