  • Son of Arthur G. Hazard, of Auckland City, New Zealand.

A memorial plaque is yet to be installed at Harbourview-Orangihina Park, Anti-Aircraft Battery ( at Te Atatu) in memory of Whelan and others. This was instigated by his neice Lynn Ashton.

In 1998 Adriaan de Winter and Ton van Alphen undertook a project in the Reichswald Forest Cemetery photographing all the headstones of New Zealanders buried there.

A replica of a memorial in Weiswampach, Luxembourge, designed by Pol Holweck stands near the gun emplacements in Harbourview Orangihina Park in Te Atatu Peninsula. Unveiled in September 2010, it commemorates not only the airmen who died when their Lancaster bomber was shot down over the village of Weiswampach on 12/13 August 1944 but all those who lost their lives.
