  • Husband of Rita

Jack McGregor was a member of the Silverdale and Districts RSA and was Patron at his time of death. He was the proud holder of 'Life Membership' 1998-NZRSA, Special Honours List 1991 and a 'Certificate of Merit Award' 1994. He was also Custodian of the Silverdale RSA Museum

Jack was a volunteer and organised the roster for the Silverdale RSA members who help host the 'Scars of the Heart' exhibition at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

His wife, Rita McGregor recalls the day of his death: "April 17th the day of my husbands death was Friday, Poppy Day. He had been active all day since 8.30am organising and supervising the many collectors on the Hibiscus Coast until 5 pm when he reported having chest pains and was admitted for tests and discharged at 11.30pm that same night only to collapse and die as we were leaving the North Shore Hospital foyer. One could say he had died on 'active service' as he was truly dedicated to the welfare of his comrades and had in fact served as Silverdale RSA Welfare Officer just prior to his death." AWMM
