  • Noel Johnson was the eldest son of George Francis Johnson and Mary Teresa Josephine Johnson (nee Pohlen) of St Heliers, Auckland.

He was wounded in action and died the day before his twentysecond birthday. His family were informed that he was wounded but official confirmation that he had died was slow to arrive. The chaplain of his unit wrote from Cairo to inform the family and when no official notification could be obtained Mr and Mrs Johnson contacted the Red Cross. Through their Berlin office the news of his death at Salonika was confirmed. His grave site in the Military Cemetery in Phaleron, Greece, has been visited by family who found the grounds to be beautifully kept. AWMM
