    • Gordon Wilde was the son of Hans and Mary Ellen Wilde of Levin. He was the husband of Valerie Wilde of Khandallah, Wellington.

      Flight Sergeant Wilde was reported as killed on active service in the New Zealand Herald on 28 January 1944. He was a wireless operator/air gunner.

      In 1998 Marco Scuderi and Rosario Scuderi photographed the Catania War Cemetery in Sicily including the entrance and plaques, cross of sacrifice, views of the cemetery and the headstone of this serviceman.

      On 4 January 1944 Wellington HZ594 took off from Luqa, Malta - detailed to escort a convoy and carry out an anti-submarine patrol. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was lost and all the crew members were killed.
