Mrs Brier explains her husbands service: "When my husband left NZ they were heading for Egypt but were diverted to England to help out.

I don't know if he was ever officially in the 4th Field Regiment but he left here as a reinforcement for it. It was either while still in England or when they finally arrived in Egypt that he permanently became a 5 Fielder"

The family orginally thought that Mr Brier spent time in Stalag 383 Hohenfels but they now suspect that this was not the case. It seems he spent the majority of his time at Stalag VIIIB and on work parties, going to Lamsdorf occasionally when he was sick. All the letters they sent him were addressed to Stalag 8B at Teschen. They were addressed to: Private Bruce Brier, FS-183/8202 E-384, Stalag VIIIB, Germany. AWMM
