  • Mr Rule first enlisted in the RNZAF on 11 February 1944 (NZ 44844) and then transferred to the Army on 6 March 1945 (824386).

He then served in Noumea with 29 Works Company. While in the Pacific his family believe he served in New Guinea and was also involved in collecting the remains of personnel around the Islands and returning them to be interred in the new Cemetery at New Caledonia (in which he was also involved in building). On returning to New Zealand on board Tagua on 19 July 1946 he again embarked, this time for Japan as part of the J Force on 15 July 1947.

Mr Rule was awarded the Queens Service Medal (QSM) in 1992 for service to the community and for setting up the Sumner Redcliffs Historical Society and Museum in 1979. AWMM
