  • Son of William Simpson, born in New Zealand, while his mother Anne Simpson nee Patchett was born in England.

    On enlistment Mr Simpson was described as being 30 years and 2 months.

    Private Simpson served a total of 2 years and 199 days in the New Zealand Army. He served overseas between 9 March and 6 July 1942 and again between 3 December 1942 and 12 June 1944. He served within New Zealand between 13 January and 8 March 1942, 7 July 1942 and 2 December 1942 and 13 June and 30 July 1944.

    He had Alzheimers dementia for 10 years.

    Death Notices: SIMPSON, Colin George (Sparky) (Regtl No 73330). On September 18, 1998; aged 87 years. Loved husband of Mavis, father of Colin and Debbie, stepfather of Dawn and Don, grandfather of Greg and Frania, Shane and Dionne, Hayley, Kurt, Kyle and Glenn, Stacey, Kapua, Heather, Dean, Maria, and great-grandfather of Drew, Millie and Dillion. A special thank you to the dedicated staff of Parkhaven Hospital for their loving care and attention. "A dearly loved husband devoted father and grandfather and will always be remembered with deep affection." A service will be held in the Chapel of Love and Remembrance, Mangere Cemetery, Gate 1, Kirkbridge Rd, on Tuesday, September 22, at 1pm, followed by a burial at Manukau Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Pahinui Rd, Papatoetoe.
