  • Mervyn's enrolment papers record the birth date as 1919 instead of 1920.

    The foresty unit Mervyn Neilson was in worked a saw mill in Surrey, England

    Mervyn Neilson returned to New Zealand in Mauretania. They left England on 22 September 1943 and arrived on 30 October 1943.

    Mr Neilson later volunteered for Japan (occupation of) on 12 February 1948 but was not accepted.

    His Memorial plaque reads: SPR M NEILSON NZ ENGINEERS 2nd NZEF AWMM
