    • John Haberfield was the son of William Isaac and Frances Mercy Haberfield (nee Bailey), of Greenhills, Southland, New Zealand.

      Embarkation details were Censored.

      Executed by the Japanese using a sword, along with 8 other naval POWs, who were known as the 'Palembang Nine'.

      The exact date of Lieutenant Haberfield's death is uncertain, but was in the period 18-20 August 1945.

      The New Zealand Herald reported on 2 March 1946 that Lieutenant Haberfield was presumed to have died. Next of kin details compiled from information in the Casualty lists published in the newspapers. AWMM
