    Meta Callender was a VAD Nurse. In World War I they had to pay for themselves and went voluntarily to Nurse New Zealand wounded and sick at Walton-on-Thames Hospital.

    Meta Callender met her future husband Robert Johnson (13/197) when he was a patient at Walton-on-Thames Hospital. They were married in 1917 following her return to NZ in 1916, and after Robert Johnson had been invalided home. AWMM
