  • Private Johnson embarked with the Main Body along with his horse.

    He met his wife, Mary Meta Callender, while a patient at Walton-on-Thames Hospital. She was a VAD nurse there at the time. They were married in 1917 after he was invalided home to New Zealand.

    A leather satchel (with metal plates) has been donated to the Auckland War Memorial Museum. AWMM
