  • George Keymer was one of twelve children of William and Elizabeth Keymer. A builder's labourer (W. H. Whittaker, Albert St, Auckland). After enlistment he was assigned to the tank brigade and had some experience as a mechanic. His brother Ted Keymer (who also has a Cenotaph record) worked hard to get him transferred to his own Petrol Company. Finally on the 3 February 1944 he succeeded and George joined the Petrol Company for their time in Italy. In December 1945 George embarked for New Zealand with the Aparima draft and arrived home on 13 January 1946. He had served a total of 4 years, 162 days in service of which 2 years, 245 days were spent overseas.

He remained a bachelor all his life and lived on the North Shore with his sisters Thelma and Muriel and younger brother Alan. He worked at various jobs after the war which included working at a steel mill and at the Chelsea sugar factory. AWMM
