  • Alan Akers was a keen photographer. He produced three war albums and left a diary of his war events.

    He received the third and fourth service chevrons for long service.

    He was hospitalised at No 8 General , the 64th General British in Alexandria; the No 2 NZ General at Kantara and No 1 NZ General (convalescence) and returned home on furlough on "NZ Tongariro" in 1945.

    Was involved in campaigns "Crusader" and "Supercharge" in the Middle East and "Dickens" in Italy
