  • Son of Arthur Garner Langdon and Charlotte Maria Langdon, of Hawera, Taranaki

    Educated at Hawera High School. First employment was with Egmont Box Co. Ltd as a costing clerk.

    Applied for enrolment in the Civil Reserve of Pilots in 1938, but was unsuccessful.

    Applied for short service commission in RAF in 2 February 1939 and was accepted four months later.

    Awarded flying badge mid-February 1940.
